Approximately one-fifth of Pakistan’s total land area was underwater after heavy monsoon rains in July 2010, affecting around 20 million people and killing close to 2,000. The UAE Armed Forces sent a 42-person team along with a fleet of Chinook helicopters to assist in relief efforts. Working jointly with the Armed Force of Pakistan, they evacuated more than three thousand people and airlifted more than 350 tones of food and supplies.
